In 1925 Jacques Guerlain created Shalimar, the first oriental perfume in history, inspired by the passionate love story between the Indian emperor Shah Jahan and princess Mumtaz Mahal.
For her the emperor built the splendid Shalimar Gardens, which means 'temple of love', and the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Shalimar is therefore the perfume symbol of eternal love, made of desire, ardent and sensual, with a hint of the forbidden. The wearer intends to let his senses overwhelm him.

Its bottle designed by Raymond Guerlain was inspired by the fountains of the Shalimar Gardens and won first prize at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris. The trail is sensual, warm, luxurious, thanks to the presence of vanilla and the sweet fragrant and delicious notes of the tonka bean.
